Will Smith Leaves Hampshire To Return To Durham

The 34-year-old has agreed terms to re-join Durham for the 2018 season

Hampshire Cricket has agreed for batsman Will Smith to re-join Durham at the end of the 2017 season.

The 34-year-old, who has spent the last three seasons with Hampshire after signing from Durham back in 2014, re-joins the side he’s spent much of his career with after agreeing terms to return for 2018.

Will has been a pleasure to have around and always put team success ahead of personal achievement. Although he lacked game time this year he has remained a great example whilst leading the Second XI. We all wish him well with his return to Durham.

The top-order batsman totalled 3,913 runs in 107 matches for Hampshire across all formats, with 2,982 of these coming in first-class cricket at an average of 37.74.

His most prolific return in the four-day competition came in his first season with the Club where the stylish batsman amassed 1,187 runs at 51.60 in the County Championship, earning him the 2014 Player Of The Year Award whilst helping Hampshire claim the Division Two title in the same season.

Smith has also been an important figure in Hampshire’s limited-overs sides in recent seasons, averaging an impressive 38.29 with the bat in List A contests, whilst the right-hander’s off-spin has also seen him contribute with ball as well as bat in multiple T20 campaigns.

Smith also captained Hampshire’s four-day side for part of the 2016 season, a campaign which included a career-best 210 against Lancashire in a magnificent innings lasting more than nine and a half hours.
