Scott Currie Shines In Under 19s World Cup

Hampshire all-rounder Scott Currie puts in solid performances for England U19s in South Africa

Hampshire’s young all-rounder Scott Currie put in two solid performances for England as the Under 19 World Cup continues in South Africa.

After falling to defeat in their first two group games, England were unfortunately knocked out of the tournament and Currie didn’t feature, but the 18-year-old then got his opportunity in England’s final group game against Nigeria.

Opening the bowling, Scott bowled four overs, conceding just nine runs and taking a wicket, as England cruised to a comfortable eight wicket win.

After entering the plate phase of the competition, England faced off against Japan and it was Currie who starred with the ball, claiming three wickets from his seven overs whilst conceding just 15 runs as the youngster once again led the attack. England proceeded to chase down Japan’s target of 93 in 11 overs and losing just one wicket.

England will now go on to face Zimbabwe in the Plate Semi Final this Friday (31st January).

Currie's preparation for the World Cup saw him feature in England's Under 19s tri-series in the West Indies, facing off against the Windies and Sri Lanka. The right-armer took the first wicket of the tour against Antigua in a warm up fixture before the seamer picked up 3-18 against Sri-Lanka in a game that England would eventually go on to win by four wickets.
