Charlie Dean

All-Rounder

Charlie Ellen Dean was born in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire on 22nd December 2000 and is a right arm off-spin bowler and right-handed batter.

She has played for Hampshire since 2016 and joined the Vipers ranks in 2017, and also represents London Spirit in the Hundred where she captained the side in the absence of Heather Knight for the 2022 season.

Dean made her Vipers debut in 2017, and became a regular in the side with the new regional hub system in 2020.

Both with bat and ball, Dean became a force to be reckoned with. Aged just 19, Dean scored what remains her top score of 60 for the Vipers, as her bowling became more consistent and threatening.

In 2021, she took the only five-for of the Charlotte Edwards Cup, off the back of consecutive three wicket hauls, and subsequently earned an England ODI debut against New Zealand at Bristol.

She took to international cricket like a duck to water, and ended the series with ten wickets at 19.10 which included figures of 4-36 at Worcester.

Over to the Ashes in Australia she went, and a Test debut beckoned where she took the wickets of Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath.

Dean was also part of England's 2022 Cricket World Cup squad who reached the final. She took a career-best 4-23 against India in a must-win match for England to help get their first win of the tournament, and she finished up as England's second leading wicket taker having played just six games.

A return to Vipers colours saw Dean end the 2022 Charlotte Edwards Cup as the team’s leading wicket taker, and second of the whole tournament, going at an economy of under five runs per over.

Further international honours were won, as she played in all six of England’s ODIs in the summer of 2022, where she took 11 wickets, with a best of 4-53 against South Africa, and scored 108 runs against India, with an international career-best of 47 at the Home of Cricket.

Off the back of a stellar 2022 summer where she was named as the PCA's Women's ODI Player of the Year, Dean was awarded her first ECB central contract in November 2022.

In 2023, Dean started strongly with the ball before she was whisked away on England duty, taking 14 wickets in nine matches, including 2-21 as the Vipers defeated The Blaze to defend their Charlotte Edwards Cup title.

She took four wickets as England Women won both the IT20 and ODI legs of their Ashes series as the trophy was shared.

Later in the summer, she took seven ODI wickets against Sri Lanka as she ended up England’s second leading wicket taker of the series which saw her claim her maiden international five wicket haul.

She came back to the Vipers for the final couple of matches of the season, and took 2-27 as the Vipers lifted their third RHF Trophy at Northampton to complete the double.
