Adam Paul ROUSE
“Rousie” is a wicketkeeper and right-handed batsman.
Orginally from Zimbabwe, he arrived in England when he was 10 and quickly made an impression. At 12 he became the youngest cricketer to score an unbeaten century in an adult league match, with a score of 107 - an achievement that landed him an interview from the Wisden Cricketer.
He got put forward for a trial at district level and played one game before Hampshire were in touch. Since then, he has been rewarded with several West of England selections and even played up an age-group for England's Under 19 side against Sri Lanka in a One-Day and "Test" match series in which his performances earned him a development contract with Hampshire.
For his county he has mainly played Second XI cricket, captaining the side for much of the 2012 season. However, he did play in the MCCU match against Leeds / Bradford University in 2011, impressing with his batting by making 67 including a partnership of 103 with Kabir Ali for the 10th wicket.
The highlight of Rouse's career so far came during The Ageas Bowl's inaugral Test match featuring England and Sri Lanka as he (aged 19) became the youngest substitute fielder to take a catch in an England match in England. On as a replacement for the injured Stuart Broad, Rouse saw off one of his heroes, Sri Lankan centurion and captain Kumar Sangakkara as a looped shot off a delivery from Jimmy Anderson fell to him at point.
A wicketkeeper-batsman in the mould of AB de Villers or Jos Buttler, he is versatile enough to provide a long-term option with the gloves or even play as a specialist batsman.
