Disability Cricket

The trailblazing Irwin Mitchell disability schools and county programme reaches over 1300 Hampshire participants with various impairments (including autism, learning and/or physical disabilities, hearing and visual impairments) each year.

There are two hard ball disability teams, one of which plays in the D40 National League and have been crowned national champions in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The second hard ball academy team currently play friendly matches against other mainstream teams. The county softball team plays in the Super 9’s National Competition.

In addition to the schools and county programme, the Hampshire Visually Impaired Cricket Club provides people with visual impairments the opportunity to play cricket, please visit their website below for further information.

Many Hampshire players have progressed via our programme to full international level with the England Physical Disability squad.

The Lord's Taverners are a key partner in our disabilty programme, helping us to deliver Super 1s and Table Cricket.

Super 1s

The Lord's Taverners Super 1s programme gives young people aged 12-25 with disabilities the chance to play cricket regularly at community hubs across the county.

Key features include:

  • Six weeks of free introductory coaching for schools and other disability groups
  • Five Super 1s hubs in Basingstoke, New Forest, Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester offering year round coaching
  • Regular fixtures as part of a national competition structure

For more information on Super 1s cricket please visit the Lord's Taverners website https://www.lordstaverners.org/super1s.

Table Cricket

The Lord’s Taverners Table Cricket programme gives young people with severe physical or learning impairments opportunities which they would not otherwise have to participate in a competitive game of cricket.  Coaching in schools funded by Lord’s Taverners is followed by a county competition, and the winners progress to the regional stages and potentially national finals at Lord's, the home of cricket.  The Table Cricket Young Leaders Award is incorporated into the programme.

For more information on Table Cricket please visit the Lord's Taverners website https://www.lordstaverners.org/table-cricket.
