Andrews' All-Round Excellence Sees Academy Suffer Defeat

An unbeaten hundred and a seven-wicket haul from Thomas Andrews saw Hampshire Academy defeated by Bashley in the Southern Electric Premier League

Thomas Andrews (114*) scored an unbeaten century and took seven wickets Hampshire Academy suffered a 197-run defeat in the Southern Electric Premier League on Saturday.

Andrews hit 13 fours and two sixes as the hosts posted 298-6 from 63 overs after they won the toss and elected to bat first.

The all-rounder then took 7-26 as the Academy were bowled out for 99 and ultimately came up well short, with Joe Weatherley (28) top scoring for the visitors.

Tom Barber (4-61) and Josh McCoy (2-16) bowled well to initially restrict their opponents to 76-4, however, Andrews and wicket-keeper Chris Ridley (46*) scored 106 runs for the sixth wicket to frustrate the young Hampshire bowlers.

Samuel Thompson (29) provided a late onslaught for Bashley as the Academy were set a daunting 297 to win.

In reply, Weatherley got Hampshire off to a quick start, but when he was dismissed by Kevin Nash (1-26), his side began to lose wickets in quick succession.

Hampshire collapsed from 65-2 to 87-8, with Andrews taking five of the six wickets that fell in what proved to be a match-winning spell for the home-side.

He then took the final two wickets as Hampshire were bowled out for 99, with the bowler claiming the scalps of the final seven batsmen in an impressive 56 ball spell.

Bashley picked up maximum points with the victory, but stayed in third, 26 points ahead of Hampshire Academy who sit just one point behind in fourth.

The Academy return to action on Saturday when they host seventh-placed Burridge at the Nursery Ground, and will be hoping for a repeat of the reverse result, where Hampshire were victorious.
