Gubbins Representing The Tuskers In Zimbabwe

Nick Gubbins hones red-ball skills with stint in Zimbabwe playing for the Matabeleland Tuskers

Hampshire batter Nick Gubbins has travelled to Zimbabwe to represent the Matabeleland Tuskers franchise in four-day cricket.

The Tuskers were formed in 2009 as part of the restructure in Zimbabwean first-class cricket. Based in the Bulawayo metropolitan area, the Tuskers play their fixtures at the picturesque Queen Sports Club, the second largest Cricket ground in the Country.

Four-day fixtures are part of the Logan Cup, the first-class competition in Zimbabwe, which the Tuskers have won four times since their formation in 2009.

Gubbins will be team-mates with some of the top Zimbabwean talent, Sean Williams is a current International with a healthy Test average of 41 and four centuries to go along with it. Craig Ervine, captain of Zimbabwe in all formats and brother of Hampshire legend Sean, is also part of the Tuskers franchise.

The Hampshire Left-handers debut for the Tuskers came against the Mashonaland Eagles in Harare, a team which featured Yorkshire’s Will Fraine, and scored 15 runs batting number three in the first innings as well as taking four wickets with his part time leg-spin.

Gubbins will have three more fixtures representing the Tuskers at the first-class level, running up till the 15th February, Matabeleland currently sit top of the table, having won two out of their four games. The Mountaineers, Mid-West Rhinos and Southern Rocks make up the rest of the Tuskers schedule, before finishing the season with four domestic T20 matches.
