Hampshire Cricket To Raise Further Funds To Support NHS and HCF

Proceeds raised will help fund improvements to University Hospital Southampton’s general intensive care unit (GICU) as well as to support Hampshire Cricket Foundation’s life-saving cardiac screening programme

Hampshire Cricket are delighted to add a second raft of lots to its ongoing charity auction, helping to raise further funds for Southampton Hospitals Charity and the Hampshire Cricket Foundation, the Club’s official registered charity.

Following the overwhelming popularity of the auction’s opening lots which saw over £31,000 raised, more than 30 new items are open for bidding via the link above, with items including a holiday to Barbados for four, a number of hotel, spa and leisure breaks, exclusive experiences and a host of memorabilia.

All proceeds raised will continue to help support the work of Southampton Hospitals Charity – which raises life-changing funds for University Hospital Southampton by enhancing the care, experience and outcomes for thousands of patients every year, as well as funding the Hampshire Cricket Foundation’s life-saving cardiac screening programme across the region.

We were delighted with the success of our first online auction which raised funds for the redevelopment of the Intensive Care Unit at the Southampton General Hospital and for the Hampshire Cricket Foundation, and we are very grateful to the generous donors who contributed more than £30,000 in successful bids.

We are today launching the second online auction as part of a series of initiatives across the summer to raise more funds for these charities; this is now live and all monies raised will contribute directly to the resources which help them to perform their vital work.

David Mann, Hampshire Cricket & The Ageas Bowl Chief Executive

The commencement of the charity auction marks the formation of a new partnership between Hampshire Cricket, The Ageas Bowl and Southampton Hospitals Charity with money raised courtesy of the auction and burgeoning relationship to help fund a new rehabilitation space within University Hospital Southampton’s GICU, the requirement for which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a top rated regional trauma centre serving the Central Southern counties and the Channel Islands, we’ve seen a 13% increase in demand for services over the last five years, however the current GICU infrastructure was not designed to cope with this escalation. The department has also been under greater pressure due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of space to offer rehabilitation to patients who have been receiving life saving care for long periods of time, has become more apparent.

We’re so grateful for the support from Hampshire Cricket to improve facilities for patients which will speed up recovery times and give patients a better chance of settling back into normal life. The Rehabilitation Space will enable us to further enhance the care of patients whilst continuing to provide world class healthcare.

Jeneen Thomsen, Joint Interim Director at Southampton Hospitals Charity

Hampshire Cricket are further demonstrating their support for Southampton Hospitals Charity this season with all 2020 playing kits, including those to be worn in this summer’s Bob Willis Trophy and Vitality Blast, carrying the NHS logo and all profits from sales of replica shirts in 2020 donated to Southampton Hospitals Charity.

Hampshire stars Sam Northeast, Mason Crane and Keith Barker were in attendance at a launch event last week where they officially unveiled 2020’s playing kits, met NHS staff from University Hospital Southampton’s GICU and were given a guided tour of the Hospital’s new rehabilitation zone’s construction.

An additional £10,000 has also been raised courtesy of the generosity of would-be attendees to the The Ageas Bowl’s two scheduled England matches this summer – an ODI against Australia and an IT20 against Pakistan – the postponement of which meant ticket buyers could request a refund, a ticket exchange or donate the value of their tickets to support the charity’s work.
