Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Rewind: Adams Takes Three In The Final

Southern Vipers captain Georgia Adams took three crucial wickets as the Diamonds were restricted to 215-9 at Lord’s

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.

Having made the trip to Lord’s via Beckenham, Georgia Adams called correctly at the toss and elected to bowl first, on the same pitched used for the final England v India ODI the day before.

A provisional Vipers squad was announced beforehand, but the ECB cleared Maia Bouchier, Charlie Dean, and Lauren Bell to all play in the final of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, less than 24 hours after Dean was run out at the non-striker’s end with England just 17 runs away from victory,

After a strong opening stand by the Northern Diamonds was broken by Charlotte Taylor, the wickets began to fall more regularly, with Taylor along with Paige Scholfield finishing with two wickets apiece.

But in the final few overs of the innings, skipper Georgia Adams wanted in, and picked up the key wicket of the dangerous Bess Heath.

The powerful batter looked to reverse sweep Adams down the slope towards the Mound Stand, but the Vipers’ captain hit her on the back pad, trapping her plumb in front.

Then, in the final over, Adams picked up two in two.

Leigh Kasperek was the first to go, chipping a catch to Georgia Elwiss who took it one handed at midwicket.

Youngster Lizzie Scott was Adams’ third victim – the England U19 fast bowler found herself trapped on the crease and umpire Sarah Bartlett didn’t hesitate in raising her finger.
