Match Preview: Sunrisers v Southern Vipers, RHFT
A 13-player squad has been named for Southern Vipers’ trip to Radlett to take on Sunrisers in the final RHFT match before the CEC
The Ageas Bowl-based Southern Vipers will warm-up for their defence of the KIA Super League with a friendly fixture against the Surrey Stars at Newclose on Tuesday (8th August).
They will look to retain their crown this year, and will face their fellow Super League counterparts in a friendly on the Isle of Wight.
The game will be a 20-over fixture, starting at 12:00pm, with both sides likely to field strong line-ups as they prepare for this year’s campaign which gets underway on Thursday (10th August).
Charlotte Edwards’ side won the inaugural competition with a convincing seven-wicket win over Western Storm in the competitionfinal at Chelmsford in August 2016.
The Vipers retained key players Edwards and Suzie Bates, and have also recruited well, bringing in international stars Hayley Matthews and Mognin du Preez as well as World Cup winner Danni Wyatt.
The Surrey Stars are also full of huge names in the Women’s game with their squad containing England power-hitters Nat Sciver, Tammy Beaumont and South African Lizelle Lee.
The game is set to be a cracker, despite it being a friendly. After the game, lunch will be available, followed by two practice ten over sessions for both teams.
Newclose has a strong link with the county, having hosted several Hampshire Second XI games this season, including last month’s double header against Sussex.
The Southern Vipers begin the tournament in front of the Sky Sports cameras against Western Storm at the The Ageas Bowl, whilst Surrey Stars start their campaign at home to the Yorkshire Diamonds on 13 August.
The Kia Super League will be broadcast live on television and radio this summer with Sky Sports providing live coverage of six ‘double-headers’ alongside NatWest T20 Blast matches. The Southern Vipers televised home fixture this season will see them take on Western Storm at the The Ageas Bowl on Thursday 10th August, ahead of Hampshire's NatWest T20 Blast fixture against Glamorgan.
2017 Southern Vipers Squad: Charlotte Edwards (captain), Tash Farrant, Danni Wyatt, Mignon du Preez, Arran Brindle, Suzie Bates, Hayley Matthews, Georgia Adams, Katie George, Linsey Smith, Ellen Burt, Tara Norris, Izzy Collis, Carla Rudd, Charlie Dean.
