Winter Watch: Hampshire Players In Action Overseas

Take a look at where 10 of Hampshire's first-team squad will be playing as they head overseas this winter

Following an encouraging 2019 summer of cricket, Hampshire’s players have enjoyed a brief period of rest since the season’s culmination in September.

With a huge 2020 cricketing calendar on the horizon and the fixture-list for the domestic season just around the corner, Hampshire’s players will soon begin their winter preparations for next season, and several squad-members have already begun their preparations overseas.

Mason Crane, James Fuller, Rilee Rossouw and Chris Wood are all involved in the upcoming Global T10 competition taking place in Abu Dhabi, beginning later this week.

T10 Update

The quartet will go head-to-head throughout the tournament with Crane (Deccan Gladiators), Fuller (Maratha Arabians), Rossouw (Bangla Tigers) and Wood (Northern Warriors) all hoping to hone their white-ball skills during the tournament which lasts 10 days.

Hampshire captain James Vince, fresh off playing his part in helping England secure a thrilling IT20 series win against New Zealand last week, now heads to South Africa for the Mzansi Super League to join up with First Team Manager Adrian Birrell's Paarl Rocks side.

Seamer Kyle Abbott is also set to feature in the T20 competition which runs until the end of the month in his home nation, as he lines up for Durban Heat.

Hampshire batsman Felix Organ embarks upon his second consecutive season in Australia playing for Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club in Melbourne, after captaining Broadbeach Robina Cricket Club during the 2018/19 Australian cricket season. The 20-year-old has made an impressive start to his 2019/20 season in Melbourne with tidy figures with the ball and a high score of 75 to begin the campaign.

The youngster made an instant impact for Hampshire this season scoring his maiden first-class century in just his third first-class game, getting his chance after scoring 602 runs at an average of 50.17 for Hampshire’s Second XI.

Ian Holland returned to Melbourne shortly after the conclusion of this season, preparing for the Australian summer with Ringwood Rams for his 14th season. The American born batsman has left Melbourne temporarily to be part of the USA cricket team in the Caribbean Super 50 competition taking place in Trinidad and Tobago.

Holland made his debut for USA earlier this week, scoring 28 with the bat and taking handy figures of 2-35 off his 10 overs with the ball. Holland became a crucial part of Hampshire’s squad towards the end of the season after grabbing the opportunity and consolidating the opening with Organ. The 29 year old ended the season with 3 fifties and 1 hundred and was building momentum with every game.

Tom Scriven is also heading to Australia and will be re-joining Broadbeach Robina Cricket Club in Queensland, working with a coach from TSS school to try and develop his game further. The Oxford born all-rounder took a magnificent 6-46 in the 2018/19 Grand Final to help the team to a comfortable six-wicket win.

Scriven had some exciting performances for Hampshire 2nd XI this year including two hundreds and two fifties. The exciting youngster's most noticeable performance was his bowling performance against Surrey where he finsihed with figures of 5-14 from 10 overs.

Harry Came will be joining up with his housemate Holland to represent Ringwood Rams this winter. The right-hander last spent a winter in Australia in 2016/17 playing for Port Adelaide Cricket Club and will be hoping to make an impact.

Came made with his first-class debut for Hampshire as a concussion sub at the Oval as the St Cross cricketer scored a bold 23 off 89 balls to help James Vince’s side secure a crucial draw up against an experienced bowling attack featuring Morne Morkel and Rikki Clarke. The 20 year old will be hoping to build on his 2nd XI season where he scored 623 runs when the 2020 campaign gets underway
