Healthy Heart Programme

In partnership with the Wessex Heartbeat and the Hampshire Cricket Foundation charities, the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre are proud to deliver an innovative 'Healthy Heart' programme designed to optimise the health of your heart.

Today in the UK, 7.4 million people are living with cardiovascular disease. Many risk factors contribute towards poor heart health including being overweight, having high blood pressure, smoking or being inactive.

Our friendly and highly trained team here at the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre will be offering weekly exercise input, from the centre's bespoke gym at the Ageas Bowl, to support and guide you safely through exercising your way to a healthier heart.

Our classes would be suitable for those who may have or may be at risk from any of the following conditions:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Controlled Angina
  • Previous Heart Conditions
  • Overweight
  • Family History of Heart Problems

The sessions are also ideal if you have carried out previous cardiac rehabilitation with the NHS. In particular, this programme aims to pick up from where the phase four rehabilitation leaves off, offering a more intimate and secure exercising environment in comparison to other mainstream exercise settings. 

Sessions run on Mondays at 09:30am or 11:00am, with the first six sessions free. A small fee will be payable thereafter for those wishing to continue.

Referrals from GPs and other healthcare professionals are welcomed but you are also able to self-refer.

I came to the first healthy heart session with much trepidation as I hadn’t exercised for about 25 years and had never previously used gym equipment! But I needn’t have worried... Anna made us all really welcome and put us at ease straight away. She clearly explained how to use all the machines and then helped us as we started out. Each week the hour goes really quickly with a warm up followed by an exercise plan specifically designed for each person, then we finish with the cool down. It’s been really fun to do and I have definitely noticed a difference since week one. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone thinking about joining the course.
