Aug 8 2013
Danny Briggs is one of three Hampshire players named in the Lions squad
Hampshire trio Danny Briggs, Michael Carberry and James Vince have been selected for an England Lions squad to take on Bangladesh A at the end of August.
The spinner and the two opening batsmen have been named in a 12-man squad to play three One-Day games against the tourists, who were beaten by a shadow Hampshire side on Wednesday by eight runs.
It means all three will miss out on Hampshire's tricky Yorkshire Bank 40 match against the Lancashire Lightning at Old Trafford on Tuesday 20th August. Briggs, Carberry and Vince starred against the same opposition in ther Royals' Friends Life t20 Quarter Final against the same opposition on Thursday night.
England’s limited overs coach Ashley Giles will coach the side which includes three Lions debutants. Young bowlers Jamie Overton (Somerset) and David Willey (Northants) have both previously been through the Potential England Performance Programme (PEPP) with Overton also being part of the England Under 19 squad. Overton and Willey are joined by Sussex paceman Chris Jordan who has enjoyed a fine county season in 2013 taking over 50 First Class wickets. Jordan has also been a part of the England Performance Programme in 2009 and the PEPP in 2008.
