A half-century from Jake George wasn’t enough to prevent the Hampshire Second XI falling to a 165-run defeat to a strong Surrey Second XI side in their Second XI Trophy match at Sunbury.

Despite opening bowler David Balcombe (2-64) taking two wickets and Sean Terry (1-34) taking one, it was batsman Surrey Gary Wilson who stole the show as he hit 138 from 97 balls.

Wilson’s knock included 11 fours and 7 sixes as he and Vikram Solanki (64) led the home side to 277-5 off their 40 overs.

Unfortunately for Hampshire, George’s knock of 56 from 64 balls (9 fours) was the only real mainstay of the innings as Surrey dismissed the visitors for 112.

Hampshire Seconds will be looking to bounce back when they face the Gloucestershire Second XI on Monday 5th August at Lansdowne.CC  in their next Second XI Trophy match.
