Glenn James Maxwell
“Maxi” is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm, off-spin bowler who was registered for the 2012 season’s Friends Life t20 competition.
He arrived in the country at the end of April and had already played some matches for the county’s Second XI as well as for Club side South Wilts by the time he was offered the T20 deal with the Royals.
Maxwell has impressive T20 credentials having played for the Delhi Daredevils in the 2012 Indian Premier League as well as opening the bowling for the Melbourne Renegades in 2011’s Australian “Big Bash” competition - a team that also featured fellow Royals T20 all-rounder Shahid Afridi.
The 23 year old holds the record for the fastest List A 50 (off 19 balls) in Australian domestic cricket and also made an impression in the Second XI scoring, amongst other big knocks, 115 (including 12 sixes) against the MCC Young Cricketers in the Second XI T20 his first month. His century came off 31 balls with the second 50 off just 11.
His contract with Hampshire does not affect his ability to play for South Wilts as and when he is available.
