Hampshire Cricket
The Ageas Bowl is home to Hampshire Cricket – one of the 18 First Class cricketing counties in England and Wales.
The club was established in 1863 and has been the stamping ground of some of the legends of world cricket through the years including Australian spin bowler Shane Warne (right), West Indian fast bowler Malcolm Marshall and England batsman Robin Smith amongst many others.
These days the Royals can count Internationally honoured players as well as some of the most exciting prospects in English cricket amongst it's ranks.
Hampshire’s major honours include winning the County Championship in 1961 and 1973. However, the club has also won 11 limited-overs titles, creating history in 2010 by becoming the first British domestic side to win a Twenty20 Cup on home turf in front of a packed South Coast crowd of 25,000 people. In 2012, they completed an historic double by winning both the Friends Life t20 and Yorkshire Bank 40 competitions.
The club play in three domestic competitions over the summer months (April - September) – the LV= County Championship, the Yorkshire Bank 40 competition and the Friends Life t20 cup.
Each summer, the venue also plays host to International cricket and has seen England play all of the world's major powerhouses on its square.
It is in the process of becoming the Britain’s first Model Test match ground and was, in 2010, awarded “Best International Ground” in an independent ECB [England and Wales Cricket Board] survey.
In 2013 England play two Natwest Series One Day Internationals at the ground against Australia and New Zealand as well as a T20 International also against the Aussies.
