225-2 v Middlesex (Rose Bowl, June 2006)

Many people associated with Hampshire Cricket, spent 29 June 2006 at St Paul’s Cathedral for a Service of Remembrance for their great captain Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie. One of his great phrases was “Entertain or Perish” so he might have approved when that evening Hampshire reached 225-2, their record score in a T20 match.

Michael Carberry with 90 from 59 balls and Mitchell Stokes, 62 from 39 led the way with a century opening partnership.

Australian Dominic Thorneley added 50 from 21 balls and when Carberry was finally dismissed, ‘Dimi’ Mascarenhas hit 12 in an innings of two balls and one minute!

Michael Lumb: 124* v Essex (Rose Bowl, 2009)

When T20 started in England in 2003 it was generally regarded as a bit of fun and counties played just five matches in a season. In the early years Hampshire were one of the least successful sides but that has changed significantly not least since their batsmen have been recording centuries – four since 2009. Jimmy Adams has two and Michael Carberry one, but the highest innings was by Michael Lumb who scored 124* v Essex at the Rose Bowl in 2009.

There were four sixes and 14 fours from 69 balls as he also passed 1,000 career runs in the competition. Hampshire’s total of 219-2 was only six runs short of their highest ever and they won easily by 75 runs.

Dimi Mascarenhas: 5-14 v Sussex (Hove, 2004)

Danny Briggs is the only Hampshire bowler to pass 100 T20 wickets and he and Shahid Afridi have both taken five wickets in an innings for Hampshire in a T20 match. However, the outstanding performance was by ‘Dimi’ Mascarenhas who took 5-14 v Sussex at Hove in 2004, in the second year of the competition.

Those figures included the first T20 ‘hat-trick’ anywhere in the world between two first-class sides. Sussex lost wickets regularly but after reaching 51-6 Mascarenhas struck and despite 37* by captain Chris Adams they were all out for 67.
