Carberry scored an unbeaten century against Lancashire in this year's FLt20 competition

Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry has been rewarded for being one of the most consistent run-scorers in domestic limited-overs cricket over the last few seasons by being selected for the England T20 International squad to take on Australia.

The left-hander, along with county team-mate Danny Briggs, could become only the second and third players respectively to represent England at The Ageas Bowl while a Hampshire player (the first being Kevin Pietersen).

The Royals duo were named in a 13-man squad for the two match NatWest International T20 series against Australia commencing Thursday 29 August at The Ageas Bowl and concluding on Saturday 31 August at the Emirates Durham ICG.

Carberry is the only member of the squad yet to play a T20 for England. The 32 year old averaged 56 in this season’s Friends Life t20 competition including an unbeaten century against Lancashire in the quarter finals. Two players involved in the current Investec Ashes series have been included in the squad; captain Stuart Broad and pace bowler Steven Finn.

National selector, Geoff Miller, said: “With only eight international T20 matches until the ICC World T20 next April this NatWest series is an important chance for players to show they are capable of performing well at this level. The two matches will also allow Ashley Giles and Stuart Broad an opportunity to look at a number of different options. This squad combines players with plenty of international experience with players who have impressed at domestic level and who deserve an opportunity to test themselves in an international environment against what will no doubt be a strong Australian side.”

Only a VERY LIMITED number of general admission tickets remain - and hospitality is completely sold out - for England's T20 International against Australia at The Ageas Bowl but both are still available for the One Day International between the two teams on Monday 16 September.

The Ageas Bowl ODI is the final fixture of a five-match series. Tickets are priced from £58 for adults, £10 for children.
