An unbeaten 80 from Wilf Marriott and a half-century from Adam Rouse (68) were in vain as the Hampshire lost to Middlesex by 84 runs in their Second XI Trophy match at The Ageas Bowl’s Nursery Ground.
Adam London, who appeared for Hampshire against Bangladesh A earlier this month, hit 120 off 107 balls as he and Andrew Balbrine (103*) led Middlesex to 293-5 off their 40 overs.
South-African trialist and right-arm seamer Johan Bothma finished with figures of 2-83.
Rouse’s knock of 68 came off 82 balls (eight fours) and Marriot’s impressive 80 not out came off 79 balls (six fours), but Hampshire could only reach 209-6 in reply, confirming the win for Middlesex by 84 runs.
The defeat means the Hampshire Second XI finish bottom of the South Division with all the matches now played.
