Hants U11 Development Squad
Hampshire's Under 11 Girls Development Squad were ecstatic after recording the first ever wins against Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. The squad boasted a 100% record in the triangular T20 festival hosted by Ballinger Waggoners CC. The squad is in its second year and is aimed at giving the best district players in the county the chance to play matches and develop their skills in preparation for Under 13 County Cricket.
Hampshire v Oxfordshire
Having won the toss Hampshire elected to bat first. Gemma Lane & Gemma Porter's strong opening partnership added 60 off the first 12 overs on a grassy wicket. Excellent calling and running between the wickets resulted in a competitive total of 102/3 .
Bowling plans failed to survive first contact with the enemy as Jess Pritchett tore into the Oxfordshire top order, removing the top four in the first over! Lucy Counsell's double wicket maiden reduced the reply to 3 for 6, and seven further bowlers were used as Oxfordshire were bowled out for 38 in the 13th over.
Head coach Emma Cowdrill was full of praise for "a superb bowling and fielding performance plus sterling work behind the stumps from Olivia Payne".
Hampshire v Buckinghamshire
After winning the toss Finty Trussler and Sara Allport opened, Trussler playing some superb shots before retiring on 21. Bucks bowled a tight line but the girls took the game to the opposition by calling positively, closing on 102/5 with vice captain Frankie Robertson retiring after a great knock on 20.
In reply captain Talia White led the way opening with three maidens and an amazing catch. Superb line and length left Bucks on 19 after 10 overs. They kicked on after drinks with Hants feeling the heat, but strong fielding including 2 run outs ensured a 19 run win.
Coach Cowdrill hailed their efforts over the two games: "After only three training sessions, the girls played with great discipline, walking in and supporting each other with every ball, bowling line and length, running between the wickets and hitting into the gaps. We gave two great team performances of great maturity, keeping it tight in the field, with every girl contributing and dominating the festival with their Hampshire spirit."
