Danny Richard BRIGGS

“Briggsy” is a slow-left-arm orthodox bowler and right-hand batsman from the Isle of Wight.

He has progressed through Hampshire’s junior and Academy sides to become a regular first team player and has also represented England at under-19, Performance Squad, Lions and full One Day International level.

He made his First Class debut for Hampshire against Somerset at The Rose Bowl in 2009 but didn't become a regular until 2010.

Then, he took 4-93 in a vital end-of-season match against Kent at Canterbury, bowling Hampshire to victory and first division safety. On the same ground he recorded outstanding T20 figures of 3-5 in four overs.

Briggs set a club record of 31 wickets in that Friends Provident t20 competition, also claiming a Man-of-the-Match award in the semi final, as Hampshire won the trophy on home turf.

He was rewarded with a trip to Australia with the England Performance Programme, then to the West Indies with the England Lions that winter. He enjoyed a hugely successful campaign, bowling more than 300 overs, of which more than 75 were maidens, yielding more than 50 wickets in total.

The success continued into 2011, where Briggs was once again Hampshire's leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket (forming part of a formidable three-pronged spin attack with Shahid Afridi and Imran Tahir) as well as in the Championship.

He made his full England debut in 2012 against Pakistan in the UAE, taking two wickets to help his country to a 4-0 ODI series white-wash. In so doing, he became the youngest ever Hampshire player, and the first Isle of Wight-born cricketer, to play for his country.

Since then he has made his Twenty20 International debut and can now consider himself a regular member in all England's limited-overs squads.
